(July 10, 2020) Marija Clara has been putting in the work – in the classroom and on stages around the world. Clara was born in Lithuania and is the daughter of Lithuanian jazz saxophonist Petras Vysniaukas, and she spent much of her life touring across Europe with her dad.
She moved to the United Kingdom to study English Literature in Scotland, and also earned a master’s degree from the Leeds College of Music. Clara has called Buenos Aires, Argentina home since 2019, and it is that picturesque city that inspired her new single, “About You.”
“I wrote this song one unusually warm late August afternoon last year, while sitting in the living room of my small Buenos Aires apartment, looking out onto the terrace and giving in into the wave of romance that took over me by surprise. It’s a song about being in awe. About being so infatuated with someone that you need to close your eyes to take it all in.”
The romantic ballad is the first single from her upcoming EP, Deep Dive, which is due to be out in September. Both the single and album are the culmination of Clara spending a decade performing and retreating to the woodshed to write. “About You” is a real showcase for Clara, an artist who possesses jazz chops learned after years of learning from her jazz saxophonist father and R&B influences that include Laura Mvula and Liannne LaHavas, among others. All of book and on the job learning has paid off on “About You.” Check it out here.
