(August 19, 2022) There’s a new “Mariah” in town.
After securing some heavy presence on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay with 2021’s “Material Girl,” which peaked at number 30, Louisiana-based singer-songwriter Mariah Hester (professionally shortened as MARIAH.) is positioning herself as a rising star in the biz. She’s following things up with her most recent single: the edgy, funk-flavored “Bizness,” a song heavily layered with dreamy 80s synth nostalgia. There’s even Yarbrough & Peoples synth claps and vocoder splashes all in the mix. And Mariah., a singer blessed with gospel and jazz riffs, flexes some heavy attitude inside the straight-forward lyrics. “Why you gotta act like that?/I know you ain’t raised like that,” she poignantly belts out before the chorus.
Lyrically penned by Mariah., the Michael Gardner-produced track is all about being fed up with the nosy crew: “I’m sure we’ve all experienced an individual who is ‘all up in our business.,” she asserts when asked about the meaning of the song. “[“Bizness”] serves as an invitation [for them] to exit.”
Mariah has just released the video for “Bizness” and it is as fun as the song. Check out this First Look Video and let us know if you’re all up in the “bizness.”
