(April 22, 2026) Piano and voice. That stripped-down arrangement gives the singer and lyricist no place to hide. The singers who embrace that sparse arrangement don’t need a place to hide. That is the case with singer/songwriter Mare, who gets intimate and frank on her new song “Nothing.”

On “Nothing,” Mare tells the story of a betrayal from the perspective of the person who was harmed. The betrayal was so deep and the attitude of the betrayer so cavalier that Mare forecloses any possibility of reconciliation. One reason for that stance stems from Mare going all in.

Mare wants the world to know that she’s over it all, and there is no gesture, or statement of regret or mea culpa will change her mind. The arrangement of piano and voice allows the listener to appreciate the range, honesty, and distinctiveness of Mare’s voice.

“Nothing” is the lead single form Mare’s upcoming album, Becoming, which follows her 2020 album Wish Me Well. Check out Mare’s new single “Nothing” here.
