(February 4, 2026) For more than two decades, Louisiana-based singer and songwriter Marc Broussard has quietly created the kind of career that is admired as much by his peers as by his legion of fans. Broussard has fearlessly followed his own muse, moving from soul, to more traditional bayou music, to pop, to blues, even where his diversions would not appeal to popular radio. In the process, he’s gained both reputation and reverence around the U.S. as a top tier performer.

On February 6, Broussard will issue the fifth in his philanthropic series of Save Our Soul collections, S.O.S. V: Songs of the 50s, on his own Artist Tone label. On it, he covers a panoply of popular songs from the early days of rock and soul, from Sam Cooke to The Righteous Brothers. And for our latest SoulTracks First Listen, we will focus on his version of the oft-covered Aaron Neville classic, “Tell It Like It Is.”

Opening with an acoustic piano and Broussard’s familiar raspy voice, “Tell It” builds into a horn-filled gem that reminds us of the simple power of the song, giving it a bluesy Southern Soul edge that is both nostalgic and timeless. And Broussard’s vocal restraint makes it work all the better.

Marc says, “This is a song I’ve heard since I was a young boy, when my dad was in a band called The Boogie Kings.  Tackling Aaron Neville is never easy.  He’s got one of the most unique and iconic voices of all time.  I wasn’t even going to try to replicate him.  I needed to approach it on my own while paying homage to the song’s creator.  I hope I got it right.”

Check out “Tell It Like It Is,” and let Marc Broussard Save Your Soul again.
