Saxophonist Maceo Parker is a living legend who is one of the most imitated and revered artists of the past half century. His work has changed the world of soul, funk, jazz and hip hop, and each of his releases is something to get excited about.
Well, we’re very excited about his upcoming release, Soul Classics, where he taps into the music of James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and more. And the first song harkens back to Maceo’s work with the great James Brown. It’s his funky take on the classic “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.” Check it out below and tell us what you think!
Soul Classics was recorded live at the Leverkusen Festival in November 2011 with the WDR Big Band and special guests Christian McBride and Cora Coleman-Dunham
