First Listen: Lorraine Clarke-McGhie brings us “Closer” to an 80s-style jam

lorraine_clark-mcghie

(January 31, 2020) Southeast Londoner Lorraine Clarke-McGhie is a talented artist who is living multiple lives. By day she teaches secondary school, taking her gospel choirs around Europe. By night she is an up-and-coming songstress who has recently come to our attention.

Lorraine won the gospel singing competition on the Love World Music Festival and has performed around London’s top soul clubs, including the famed London Jazz Café.

She now has a new single that harkens back to the cool jams that dotted urban adult contemporary in the mid to late 80s. “Closer” features electronic keyboards and programmed drums right out of the Soul II Soul playbook, and an alluring vocal performance upfront. Best of all, it’s a strong composition that rightly shows off its performer.

Check out “Closer” below and welcome Lorraine Clarke-McGhie to SoulTracks!
