(June 3, 2024) It would not be surprising if rock music is the first thing that comes to mind when fans think about the music of Lenny Kravitz. He’s a great rock guitarist who shows up on lists of the best in the business.
However, Kravitz’s music hints at the musician being greatly influenced by Prince, who was a legendary guitarist who was comfortable in the funk, R&B, pop and jazz worlds. Prince also proved to be a great balladeer.
On Kravitz’s latest project, Blue Electric Light, fans will hear a lot of guitar god work. However, Kravitz gets funky and the album includes a couple of very strong ballads. One of those ballads, “Stuck In the Middle” is featured in this First Listen.
I came across this song by accident. I searched for music prior to going on my daily walk. I wanted to hear something different, and I saw Blue Electric Light and decided that Kravitz’s new album would be the soundtrack for my daily fitness journey. I enjoyed what I heard but “Stuck In the Middle” stood out.
The song merges 1980s Quiet Storm elements such as an ultra smooth bass line and atmospheric keyboard work, meld with Kravitz’s buttery vocals, all riding on with some pop power ballad elements in the song’s bridge. The percussion that is heard throughout the song is a straight up homage to Prince. Check out Lenny Kravitz’s “Stuck In the Middle” here.
