(July 16, 2021) There’s no question that singer supreme Leela James has a voice for the ages. And the age she decides to go for on her newest single, “You’re The One,” is the 90s.
Another preview to her upcoming album Complicated, “You’re the One” is unapologetically old school, with James’ instantly recognizable husky lead floating in call-and-response mode with her background singers over a decidedly retro-cool groove, courtesy of producer Reno Reagan (Carl Thomas, BJ The Chicago Kid).
Each advance single we hear gets us more excited for Leela’s full BMG-released album, due in two weeks. In the meantime, check out “You’re The One,” and bask in an artist who is always worth hearing.
