It’s been a moment since we’ve heard new music from Miss James, but she ends the drought with a new Rex Rideout-produced single that places her voice on top of a classy, contemporary midtempo that lays nicely for her. “Complicated” tells the story of a woman who is definitely into her man, feeling all of the feelings she wants, and letting him know not to get too much into his own head about what is happening naturally between them.
There’s nothing revolutionary about “Complicated,” but there doesn’t have to be. Just grab a nice melody and keep arrangements light enough to let Leela shine.
