(May 25, 2021) For a little over a year, Detroit-based Laura Rain and the Caesars have been issuing a string of soul-and-funk filled singles that have established them as among the hottest new soul music groups around the world. But calling LR&TC “new” is a bit of a misnomer, as the band — Laura Rain (vocals), George Friend (guitar), Jim Alfredson (keyboards) and Jeff Powe (bass and drums) – has been knocking around the Motor City and Canada for several years. But the rest of the world has finally had the chance to hear the classic soul vibes of this talented group, and has fallen big time.
After releasing five songs in 2020, Laura and company are back with their first new single of 2021, one that presages their long awaited album on the UK’s LRK Records label.
“I Am,” powered by a driving Motown-influenced beat, is pledge to find personal freedom and to “reach and touch the sky.” And Laura nearly touches the sky with her empassioned vocals in front of the charging rhythm section.
The song feels like summer, and practically begs us us to roll down the windows and cruise down Woodward Avenue with stereo blasting. “I Am” will no doubt continue SoulTrackers’ love fest with Laura Rain and the Caesars. We’re proud to present the song’s World Premiere. Check it out below, and tell us what you think!
World Premiere!
