The branches spring from the tree of the gospel reality show/singing contest Sunday Best are extensive and many of the shows alums have projects reviewed here on SoulTracks. Latice Crawford may have the most compelling story of any the show’s contestants. Crawford overcame social anxiety disorder to appear on Sunday Best’s second season and earned a top three spot.
The New York native’s success on that show served as a springboard to her self-titled album, which peaked at 12 on Billboard’s gospel chart, and now Crawford returns with her sophomore effort, Diary of a Church Girl. The album features an absolute gem of a gospel ballad titled “Author” that finds Crawford using her powerful vocals – that bring to mind Kim Burrell – to beseech God to use his hand to complete the work that He has begun in her.
