Six years ago, we introduced SoulTrackers to singer, songwriter and musician Lando, with his album In This Space. The Detroit native had spent years backing such artists and Raphael Saadiq and Chante Moore, and broke out with an album that reflected that state of Detroit soul music of the time, with a vibe that was similar to Dwele and that showed the artist’s talent.
Now Lando is back with a new single that we’re feelin’ quite a bit. It opens with finger snaps and some tasty guitar licks before Lando’s gentle tenor takes the ballad to a cool, ethereal place. Lando tells us about the song: “I penned ‘Back 2 U’ one day while sitting at my keyboard and wondering whether I still wanted to pursue music from this particular vantage point…I wrote it as if it was about unrequited love because in every sense it actually is, LOL. The Smoke is about 3/4s the way complete and it is a collection of more songs about love and life from my perspective. If the nucleus of this project is of any indication I believe people who enjoyed In This Space will feel it was worth the wait.
