(February 11, 2026) “Holla Dayz,” can be one of those federally designated times when the banks close, the mail doesn’t get delivered or school is out. However, “Holla Dayz” can just as easily take place in department store checkout lane, a park or while you’re in the ride stopped at a red lite.
According to funk master Lance Vantile Whitfield, a “Holla Day” happens when a fella crosses path with a young lady that captures his eye and interest. Eyes connect and it’s clear there’s a mutual interest, but she’s not waiting around. You have seconds. Are you gonna shoot your shot? You gonna holla at a sister, or let the moment slide?
“Holla Dayz,” the new song by Whitfield, is one on which the bass master and jack of all trades reminisces about the Holla Dayz of his youth when he summoned up the courage to stand 10 toes down and make his elevator pitch.
“When I was riding around and saw a really cute girl I wanted to talk to, I’d just roll up and say, ‘Hello, can I holler at you for a minute?’ And once the conversation started, she’d either be interested or send me away. So that’s when I discovered that every day could be a Holla Day.”
Whitfield is as talented as graphic designer and animator as he is as a vocalist and bass player, and that can be seen in the video he created to accompany the song . “Holla Dayz” can be heard on Lance Vantile Whitfield’s latest project, FreeLance, and we’re excited to share it here on SoulTracks. Check it out.
