(September 5, 2025) Lamone is an artist who uses song to uplift and educate, as I learned when I wrote about his songs “Strive” and “Rhythm & Blues.” However, with a buttery tenor that can soar effortlessly into the falsetto realm at the drop of a hat, Lamone has a vocal instrument suited to for the art of making musical romance.
And that is what Lamone does on his latest single, “You Make Me Happy,” which is featured in this First Listen. From an instrumental and arrangement standpoint, “You Make Me Happy” fuses Quiet Storm infused smooth R&B and jazz with elements of contemporary R&B. The listener will hear improvisation from a soprano saxophone mixed with inflections from an acoustic guitar, along with slick percussion from trap inspired drum kits.
