(April 21, 2026) Since we first heard Lamone a decade ago, SoulTracks has been incredibly blessed with the full package deal of an artist who embraced his rich musical roots. Besides a Male Vocalist nomination for ST’s Readers Choice Awards in 2023, there were many First Listen appearances where the Connecticut native imparted knowledge, such as breaking through mental health obstacles (“Strive”) and influential pointers on black musicians’ passionate expressions (“Rhythm & Blues”). Then there were the elations (“You Make Me Happy”) and frustrations (“Rear View Mirror”) navigating romance. And through predominantly percussive soundtracks that mixed dance, hip-hop, gospel and jazz, Lamone’s vocal flexibility armed with a shivering falsetto, commanded whatever topic was on the table.
For his latest return to First Listen, Lamone comes back carrying a heavy-duty love bug known as “Chills (Revamped)”. This grown folks narrative focuses on the thoughts about a surefire partner that elicits plenty of fireworks:
All the love I have and all the joy I feel
Baby when you hold my hand
Them little hairs on my neck
They begin to rise!!
As usual, co-producer Lamone finds a groove that gravitates to the track’s theme – this time an anticipated relationship – assisted by Anthony Rivera & Jay Lang. And Lamone’s introduction via a warm vocal adlib is piloted by an older school R&B midtempo jam cushioned with a soulful soprano saxophone. For the steppers, for those hopeful romantics and for those who listen up, Lamone strikes again with those intriguing Chills to the ears.
