(December 8, 2019) Her stylishly soulful voice has complemented some of the finest urban hit makers, including Earth Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder. While Kimberly Brewer is a much respected talent in the industry as a backing vocalist and duet partner for over three decades, her opportunities to shine in the solo spotlight are much too rare. Blessed with a voice that radiates a soulful aftertaste without the excess diva power, one of Brewer’s career highlights was a holiday duet with Wonder entitled “I Love You More” from the 2002 compilation, A Very Special Christmas 5.
Moving forward to 2019, Brewer is sharing her solo gifts during this holiday season with “Every Day Feels Like Christmas” (Kimberlily Records). Backed by some of her musical friends, this original piece by Brewer and keyboardist Herman Jackson gently sweeps the listener back in the day with a full orchestra including brass and strings, snap crackling bass guitar by Byron Miller, and the crème de la crème, Wonder’s seamless harmonica work. Juicy bits of humor elevate the story line, which slightly twists the classic “Twas The Night Before Christmas” with an everlasting romantic present: “The stockings were hung by the chimney with care/ But Christmas morning nothing was there…/All of a sudden out of nowhere/I saw Santa sitting in a chair/ He said come with me/I have someone who’s waiting for you.”
With all the glorious ingredients that grace “Every Day Feels Like Christmas,” the delectable icing is Brewer’s sensitive vocal touches, making this a song that could become a holiday staple.
