(January 22, 2024) Music fans can hear Keyon Harrold and his trumpet anywhere. That’s because he is quickly emerging as your favorite artist’s favorite trumpeter. Harrold has played for an A list of R&B, pop and rap stars while maintaining his straight-ahead jazz bona fides to be cited as the future of the trumpet by none other than Wynton Marsalis.
One thing that can be truly said is that Harrold has lots of friends in the music business, and many of them gladly worked with the trumpeter on his new album Foreverland. It features collaborations with Robert Glasper, Jean Baylor, Common, Laura Mvula and his long-time friend, singer, keyboard player and songwriter P.J. Morton.
Morton and Harrold pair up on the song “Beautiful Day,” which is featured in this First Listen. The song features Morton’s vocal on a smooth, mid-tempo tune that is about two friends appreciating the small joys that make life great.
Harrold said that he and Morton co-wrote the song in Morton’s hometown of New Orleans after the two had a “heart to heart conversation about life. We’ve been making music together for years, and every collaboration is just as special as the last,” Harrold said.
The trumpeter said that Morton is one his favorite songwriters and artists. We at SoulTracks feel the same way. Check out the nice pairing of voice and trumpet on Keyon Harrold’s “beautiful Day (feat. P.J. Morton)” here.
