SoulTrackers know by now that we are completely smitten with the music of newly arrived singer Kenya. Her debut, My Own Skin (click here to see our review), was one of the year’s best, a tasty collection of songs aimed at adult soul and jazz listeners, complete with full bodied production and great vocals to boot. It has been an unexpected hit and one of the welcome additions to the musical world this year.
As we get near the holiday season, we have a special treat, courtesy of Kenya. It is a jazzy, one-of-a-kind version of a holiday classic, “Little Drummer Boy.” But for those of you who (like this writer) were never really crazy about those depressing, march-like versions of that song, you’ll be in for a treat here. Kenya makes it sound so fresh and original, you may not even recognize it.
