(April 20, 2026) Spring is in the air, mocktails are on deck and sand is drifting in-between the toes as couples dance and infatuations rise. That’s the instant atmosphere that fills the minds and enraptures the ears as soul stylist Kem and veteran sax man Boney James combine their skill sets for the percolating mid-tempo medley, “Give My Love (Boney James Joy & Pain Remix).”
Remember that malt liquor ad slogan from back in the day, “Don’t let the smooth taste fool you”? Kem’s soothing, almost-conversational delivery flows intimately over that familiar Maze-recalling groove (“You are my baby, now come take me/no promises broken, let that soak in”), and Boney James’s sax threads itself throughout as punctuation to enhance the vibes.
Sometimes it’s about a beat and the bass, and at other times it’s a better choice to let a silky, breezy bop give the grown folks an excuse to step, swing out or just hold one another on the dance floor, reminding your lady why you still belong together after all these years…..or hoping the one you just met will allow you a chance to “Give My Love” after the melodies fade.
