(July 19, 2024) Keith Robertson’s “Without You” is an upbeat and percussive song of praise and worship. Robertson is a drummer, so it should not be surprising that percussion is ever present throughout this gospel banger. Robertson also infuses all of the influences that he’s gained from his years as a musician with groups like The Dazz Band and working with artists ranging from N-Sync to Teddy Pendergrass, and jazz bands like Pieces of a Dream.
“Without You” features an Afro-Caribbean shuffle beat that is accented with steel drums and congas. It all makes for a very infectious melody that draws the listener in to hear a message of the necessity of having God in our lives. The song even includes rock elements in the form of a blazing guitar solo.
However, it’s the message of the emptiness of lives that are devoid of God’s presence that makes this a song one that has all of the elements of a praise and worship anthem.
Robertson, a native of Cincinnati, is qualified to give us a gospel song that possesses on the one oomph. He is the nephew of the legendary Isley Brothers, who are also Cincinnati natives. His grandmother, Mazel Robertson, was a backing vocalist for James Cleveland. Check out Keith Robertson’s “Without You” here.
