First Listen: Keith Robertson gets us dancing again

(March 4, 2025) One of the most certain things in life is the existence of haters.  Everyone has them. They only come around when you’re doing something worthwhile, so their presence is a good sign but their negative energy is not good at all.

Ohio native and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter/musician Keith Robertson has created a song to put the haters in check.  Keith – who was influenced by his relatives The Isley Brothers and mentored by Reggie Calloway of Midnight Star & Calloway – has been making moves in the music business since the 1980s, collaborating with Teddy Pendergrass, the Dazz Band, and N*SYNC.  His works have also been included on popular programs like the MTV Movie Awards, America’s Next Top Model, and VH1’s Behind the Music.

Keith’s new jazz-funk single is called “Get Your Groove On,” featuring Mike Cee on Talk box (just think Roger Troutman of Zapp).  Keith’s opening run sounds a bit like Maxwell on “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)” and, thereafter, he takes it upon himself to shoo away the haters while encouraging you, the listener, to rise above the hate.

He sings confidently:

If somebody act a fool
And won’t let you get your groove
Suggest for them to move

Keith is known for writing songs that reflect real life, and this is another example of it.  One could say it’s a “slam dunk” on the haters.  I couldn’t help but make that reference because I’m a lifelong basketball fan and Keith’s uncle is Oscar Robertson (“The Big O”), one of the greatest NBA players of all time.

Now, get your groove on with Keith Robertson.  Let him lift your spirits while you jam and tell the haters to get out your way.
