(July 17, 2021) For some artists, swimming in one creative lane is more than enough to handle. Putting their hands on more than one project can be problematic and can sacrifice quality in the end. In the case of soul/jazz singer-songwriter Kathy Kosins, diversity is where she finds her comfort. In addition to being a singer who has performed around the world for almost 40 years, this Highland Park, Michigan native has carved out a successful career in art and painting. Her ability to innovate and reimagine is on display on her latest single, “Don’t Get Me Started.”
Originally arranged as more of a ballad with jazz undertones on her 2018 Uncovered Soul album, “Started” is now reimagined as more upbeat and forward, with a R&B foundation. Set with driving percussion and piano, “Don’t Get Me Started” paints a picture of unexpected love changing a person’s perspective, and ultimately leading to a decision on whether or not to give in to the temptation. Kosins’ voice is confident and effectively compliments the arrangement. Her idea to remix the song is an ode to her art career. She describes it as “giving flexibility to the art; reimagining what you create to make it new and exciting.”
