(October 14, 2025) While sometimes overlooked in retrospectives of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Karyn White was one of that era’s biggest R&B singers – even though she only recorded three albums during that period – working with that period’s biggest name producers and delivering some of its most memorable R&B songs.
White has spent the last couple of decades continuing to perform and occasionally record, while also showing her talents as an actress and a designer. But we always come back to wanting to hear more music from her – and she delivers this week with a tasty new midtempo number, “You’re Gonna Want Me Back.”
Working with noted producer Derrick “DOA” Allen, White delivers a stylish midtempo with a smooth vibe and a message of warning at the end of a relationship:
Say you’ve moved on,
That’s just game talkin’
You’re gonna want me back
You’re gonna need me one day.
You’re gonna want me back,
You’re gonna miss my lovin.
The song lays beautifully for White, and should be an immediate add on adult soul stations around the world. Check out “You’re Gonna Want Me Back” below, and welcome Karyn White back to SoulTracks.
