(April 10, 2026) We’ve been fans on soul singer supreme Karen Bernod from the jump at SoulTracks. She has been a fixture in the music world for more than three decades, both as a background singer (Mary J Blige, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross) and 20 feet forward on the stage as a solo artist. And every time she issues new music, it’s a treat for the SoulTracks gang.
As we look forward to Bernod’s upcoming Iris album (May 13), she gives us a tasty sneak peek with the Philly soul styled gem, “Rain On My Star.” Written by longtime ST fave James Day and Dow Brain, “Rain On My Star” has a familiar, classic soul sound that recalls the 70s heyday of The Delfonics and Blue Magic.
Bernod’s plaintive vocals capture the pleading tones of “Rain on My Star” lyrics:

And even through the tears I cry

Stop the rain on my star (love’s gonna stop the rain)
Bernod says “‘Rain On My Star’ speaks to those quiet moments we all have – when we’re holding space for whatever emotion we are feeling – grief, memory, and hope at the same time. It’s about finding your way through the storm without losing sight of the light.”
