(September 5, 2022) While she’s made a big splash as a recording artist in the past few years, Juanita Wynn has been recording for years, including a gospel project in 2002, U Don’t Know.  But it was her songwriting gift that led Quincy Jones to sign Wynn to her first publishing deal.  And the superstars would align with the Q, such as Diana Ross, Fred Hammond, and Angie Stone investing their full trust in her uplifting storylines.

In 2019, Wynn’s warm voice graced her SoulTracks debut on U.K. soul producer Kejam’s “Let It Go,” and earlier this year, “Make It Right” delivered a tale of one owing up to their mistakes through Wynn’s exquisite balancing of her gospel roots and classic soul.

For her return to First Listen, Wynn unites the steppers with “The One” (Vulnerable Records) as part of the forthcoming project, Blood Sweat and Tears. While the track’s grooves are deliciously catchy, the lyrics about connecting with that soulmate radiate a genuinely promising relationship: “I was a little shy, just a little bit/You wanted to dance but I wanted to sit / Then we started talking conversation lit/Till we both forgot where we were.”

As always, Wynn’s steady performance holds down “The One,” with assistance from Rosta Collins and producer Ivan Johnson.  We now look forward to what Blood Sweat and Tears will sound like when the time comes.  Meanwhile, check “The One” out.
