(May 10, 2024) On the cut featured in this First Listen, JTreece and Terri Green transform Teddy Pendergrass’s slow jam “Close The Door,” into a romantic dialog between two lovers prepared to enjoy each other.
“Close The Door” may be Teddy Pendegrass’s most iconic bedroom ballad, and it’s the tune that changed TP’s life. He’d always been that dude from the moment he first stepped up front with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. However, the ballad “Close The Door” firmly established TP as a cultural force who could stage a concert for the ladies only.
That history makes JTrees’s decision to turn “Close The Door” into a love conversation rather than a sensual monolog an inspired one. The musical resume of JTreece and Green shows they have the chops to pull it off. JTreece has been singing and swinging his axe since the age of nine. Green possesses the vocal chops that make her an in-demand collaborator with a host of dance and EDM producers when she is not performing as an indie soul vocalist.
