First Listen: Jonny Tobin takes us through an “Odyssey”

jonnytobin

(October 25, 2020) Jonny Tobin is back at it! The jazz-funk keyboard fusionist and beatmaker has dropped a new single on our ears and it is living up to its title. “Odyssey,” a collaborative work showcasing a slate of young emerging talent, displays a versatile funk that snugs perfectly into any cool lounge playlist.  It takes off with Vancouver rapper Kapok sliding showcasing both a clever mix of raspy rhymes and vocals and is anchored down by The Drum Temple’s hip-hop swag and go-go percussion. BrandonLee Cierley comes in with a sexy sax solo midflight. Toward the back end, the song shifts into a slowed-down midtempo groove and falls into a jazzy soulful fog heavily saturated with Cierley’s seductive sax ad-libs.

Fans of Drake and Lil Wayne soul will gleam over this track and hunt down more of Tobin’s work. Let us know if you’re feeling the joyride of this “Odyssey.”
