(March 31, 2026) Since he broke down contemporary gospel’s walls almost 15 years back, Jonathan McReynolds has kept his soulful personality intact and music rejuvenating when it comes to communicating the Good News. Through his unwavering, tender tenor along with acoustic guitar and piano, McReynolds’ welcoming ”Life Room” nuggets speak about the spiritual battles and how we can handle life’s fierce darts.
SoulTracks has respected this ministry, which offers the core of God’s faithfulness powered with poetic neo-soul, pop & R&B (“Able,” “Whole” feat. India.Arie, and, “Still” with American Idol winner Jamal Roberts).
Returning to his hometown of Chicago for the upcoming CD Closer on Life Room/Motown Gospel/Capital CMG, McReynolds presents gospel powerhouses such as Roberts, Tasha Cobbs Leonard and worship ensemble, Team Eternity Ghana And our latest First Listen focus from Closer, “New Normal,” shares knowledge from the “Life Room.”: “When they see you smiling/And your faith is rising, Don’t you get shy now, Tell them get comfortable ‘cause.”
Though the messages on “New Normal” never stray from McReynolds’ mission, he steps out of his artistic territory by indulging in an eighties disco arrangement, frosted with synthesizer drips and a rock guitar break. Despite this particular shift, which might require some adjustment by his fans, the lead vocals are always engaging while emphasizing what the “New Normal” requires as followers to walk that long but light paved road. Take a listen.
