First Listen: Jonas Winge Leisner gives classic soul feel on “Hustler”

(April 24, 2021) Danish singer Jonas Winge Leisner is new to us, but not to his musical fans around the world. Leisner first became a hit in Europe for his songs “I Close My Eyes” and “Don’t Look for Love” from the late 90s film The Only One, and he has been recording both solo and as part of the band Ridin Thumb ever since.

For his newest EP release, Sticky, which came out today, Leisner teams on songwriting with longtime SoulTracks fave Jonas Rendbo, and the result is a series of tasty soul/pop gems that should find an audience with SoulTracks readers on both sides of the pond.

We’re especially taken with the opening track, “Hustler,” a song that has a Marvin Trouble Man vibe, uber-infectious but with an intricate arrangement behind its funky front.

“Hustler” is a great introduction to Sticky and, for many SoulTrackers, to Jonas Winge Leisner. Check it out below and tell us what you think.
