(June 12, 2018) With dreamy synths and Marvin Gaye swooning, Joey Dosik cozies the ear with his latest single, “Inside Voice.” It’s a 70’s-nurtured Quiet Storm gem akin to Mayer Hawthorne’s A Strange Arrangement. Listeners will easily peg this as blue-eyed soul, but there’s no denying the glorious transport back to Philly soul greatness powered by impeccable production and Dosik’s charming vocals.
The song really comes to life thanks in part to the companion concept video directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada. Inside it the LA-based songwriter appears as a dapper restaurant waiter, but is totally ambushed by nerdy humor acted out by talking clamshells and meatballs during a dining experience. It’s quite entertaining to view, giving off light-hearted vibes using a “don’t take me serious” approach.
Those hungry for more, even after watching the cuisine puppeteering of the video, will have to hold out when the full album of Inside Voice drops in August 24 on Secretly Canadian.
