(May 25, 2023) It’s been 20 years since trombonist Jeff Bradshaw made his debut solo album, “Bone Deep”. He emerged from his native Philly as one of the stalwarts in the Neo-Soul movement alongside hit maker Jill Scott as well as members of The Roots. Two decades and much music later, he celebrates this anniversary with the album, Jeff Bradshaw: 20, and this new single, “Make Some Time”.
Featuring the smooth, silky voice of Eric Roberson, “Make Some Time” kicks in with a midtempo drum groove ladened by acoustic guitar (a known trademark in Neo-Soul). Bradshaw’s overdubbed trombone creates wonderful harmonic orchestral layers, accompanied by melodic keyboard flourishes. The message is simple – be sure to make time for the one you love and for yourself, don’t let the busyness of life rule (or overrule) what matters most in love and life. As Bradshaw points out, “(Make Some Time) is inspired by people who hustle wanting to date people who hustle. We’re all busy, but make sure you carve out some time for yourself. While you’re at it, carve out some time for us.”
This reviewer looks forward to hearing much more from the Jeff Bradshaw: 20 album and future singles. His works make for excellent smooth grooves to last all year long.
