(November 3, 2024) Singer, songwriter and guitarist Jeanne Ricks has spent her career working behind the scenes. She’s written songs for a who’s who list of contemporary jazz and R&B legends, such as George Benson and Chaka Kahn. Ricks has also worked as a backing vocalist.
Ricks released three of her own albums between the work that she has done for and with other artists. Those albums showcase her skills as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter on tunes that are instrumental contemporary jazz, as well as R&B songs with Ricks singing lead vocals.
Her latest, “What Were You Thinking,” finds Ricks showcasing her vocal and instrumental virtuosity on a track that adopts a conversational tone, with her questioning a person’s decision-making process.
This is a song that can be song from the standpoint of a parent, a friend, a significant other or a sibling. The words Ricks sings have been expressed by anyone who has seen or felt the consequences of someone else’s destructive actions.
Ricks is one of these great artists that you’ve heard even when you did not know that you were listening to her musical contributions. Fans of The Weather Channel heard Ricks’ guitar playing. That’s evidence of how highly those in the industry think of her artistry. Now, you get a chance to hear Ricks on her latest single, “What Were You Thinking.” Check it out here.
