(April 21, 2022) Jeanne Ricks is a Chicago-born, New York-based singer songwriter who has worked with some of jazz music’s most notable artists, including George Benson and the late great Nick Colionne. While her songwriting previously garnered her worldwide attention, her most recent project entitled Reinvention showcases her vocal ability. The latest single from the album, “Out of Nowhere,” sets the stage for another layer of her artistry to reach the masses.
A mid-tempo number that can fit in a quiet storm format, “Out of Nowhere” deals with how love may suddenly arrive on your doorstep — “love can come carelessly and easily…can come suddenly out of nowhere.” The arrangement is percussion heavy but soft enough to amplify Ricks’ vocals which are at times Maysa-esque. It’s a blend that not many artists are able to make work, but Ricks makes it sound effortless.
Written, arranged and produced by Ricks, “Out of Nowhere” is an excellent reminder of not only the joys of love, but of the joy of an artist who loves what she does. Jeanne’s performance is sultry and confident, and should win her new fans for her musically flexible talent.
