April 7, 2021 — Jean Deaux is an independent singer, songwriter and rapper from Chicago who released her debut EP, KRASH, in 2018 after several guest appearances on others’ projects. Genre-crossing is Deaux’s stock in trade, and she has ventured into hip hop, soul, pop, alt-R&B, house and beyond. Her gifts are many, and her slightly-wounded, serrated vocals and songwriting abilities will doubtless draw you into her world.
Our featured track, “Easiest Thing,” is perhaps best described as “a whole mood.” Anchored by slinky, single-coiled electric guitars and a head-nodding beat, Deaux delivers a slurry and delicious dedication to someone who was easy to love. You’ll hit repeat on this one, I promise. Enjoy.
