(February 18, 2026) Back in 1973, Sylvia Robinson – who previously had a #1 hit “Love Is Strange” as one-half of the singing duo Mickey & Sylvia – shocked the music industry by taking the cooing single, “Pillow Talk,” all the way to the top of the charts. The song was decidedly risqué for its time, and began a solo singing career for Robinson, who later had a third act as record executive, founding the leading rap label Sugar Hill Records.
“Pillow Talk” has remained an historic song for more than a half century, and has been covered, seemingly once a decade, by such notable artists as Cherelle, Miki Howard, and Joss Stone.
Now, Canadian singer and SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award nominee JC Sol adds fresh elements to her new version of the song. Teaming with producer David Metcen, Sol has added a light disco touch and an elegant Philly soul vibe to the proceedings, all fronted by her expressive, rich vocals and the tasteful trumpet solo from Tony Carlucci.
Sol says, “I love reintroducing vintage cover songs that once resonated so strongly. They give audiences, both young and old, a chance to experience these classics in fresh ways. For some, it’s a wave of nostalgia…for others, it’s the thrill of hearing a timeless song for the very first time.”
This is a nice new reading of an old favorite. Check out “Pillow Talk” below.
