First Listen: Jazmine Sullivan and H.E.R. team for poignant song

(January 6, 2020) It’s not a combination we expected, but it 100% works. Jazmine Sullivan made a splash as a teenage artist a decade ago, with her mature-beyond-its-years voice and her perceptive, emotional songs. And it is tough to be hotter today than singer, songwriter and guitarist H.E.R. is. She seems to be everywhere, and we simply can’t get enough of her unique vision of the future of soul music.

Now the two singers have joined together for a new song from Jazmine’s upcoming album. “Girl Like Me” is a song of loss in the digital age. A jilted lover questions her persona, her looks, and even her Tinder profile, trying to evaluate why she was rejected. It is both poignant and heartbreakingly moving.

With a sparse arrangement that allows the singers to lead the show, “Girl Like Me” is a song with which many listeners will undoubtedly relate. Check it out below.
