For the past two years, Jazlyn Martin’s acting platform has expanded as she became a member of the streaming TV series, “Bel-Air”, an update on the 90’s comedy hit, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” But there are so many facets to this L.A. born entertainer, who has pounded the pavement by appearing in commercials, other TV appearances (All American: Homecoming) and music videos.
When she’s not in front of a camera, Martin put on her dancing shoes while studying at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and participated in a 6-weeks residency at the Dance Theater in Harlem. Driven by a highly creative household growing up, Martin has always found opportunities in a busy bee career with the skills afforded her.
While studying psychology at U.C.L.A., Martin is putting together original songs for a debut E.P. Identify Crisis. And SoulTracks is pleased to roll out the introductory red carpet for Martin’s recording debut from Identity Crisis, “Perfect.” This in-depth look at the mind of one person battling peer pressure and daily life expectations undoubtedly fits the mold of a heavy psychology lesson: “Why does it feel I’m always in rehearsal/Been acting out the roles that you want me to play/ If I show you all my secrets/Would you want me the same way.”
In an extremely captivating video balancing home video cuts and Martin’s performance skills, the visuals connect all the storyline dots. Producers Terence ‘TA’ Thomas & Victor ‘Grandmaster Vic’ Ekpo effortlessly seam classical, hip-hop and R&B into their Robert Glasper Experiment setting anchored by piano loops graced with a warm string quartet, minimal beats, and crisp background voices. We welcome Jazlyn Martin in the quest towards her singer/songwriter journey. Check out the video for “Perfect”!
