World Premiere: Jamison Ross wants a “Mellow Good Time”

jamisonross2017

(January 4, 2017) While Jamison Ross’s GRAMMY®-nominated, vocal-heavy 2015 debut disc shocked some listeners who knew him primarily as a drummer — especially after he won the 2012 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Drum Competition — his sophomore disc, All For One, scheduled for release on January 26, 2018 via Concord Jazz, will surely solidify his reputation as one his generation’s brightest vocalists and drummers.

We completely dug Jamison’s debut and we have been anxiously awaiting his return. And so we’re doubly excited that we get to present the WORLD PREMIERE of the opening track on the new album. The title of “A Mellow Good Time” may sound like a ballad, but the song is a funky, jazzy, truly fun number that opens with an electric guitar and organ, and leads into a cut that will get your head bobbing and your feet moving.

Jamison tells us, “I came across ‘Mellow Good Time’ through my love of Lee Dorsey, while checking out the origin of R&B.  There is a joy in the origins of R&B that makes people smile; If only we could get back that.  The moment I heard the song I knew I wanted it to record it and put it on the new album.”

Check out “A Mellow Good Time” below and get ready with us to hear more from Jamison Ross on January 26!
