First Listen: Mariah Carey reunites with Jam & Lewis on new gem

(June 10, 2021) They are living legends, first for their leadership in The Time, and later for becoming one of the most successful songwriting and production teams of all time, helping establish the careers of Janet Jackson, Alexander O’Neal and many, many more artists.

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis announced awhile ago that they were preparing their first album as recording artists, to be titled Jam & Lewis Vol. 1, and they’ve released advance singles with Sounds of Blackness (“Til I Found You” and Babyface (“He Don’t Know Nothin’ Bout It” to get us ready.

Now they are reuniting with an artist with whom they made magic two decades ago (including the #1 hit “Thank God I Found You”), as they team with the iconic Mariah Carey on the brand new single, “Somewhat Loved.”

Jam and Lewis posted on Twitter, “When we started #JamAndLewisVol1 we put a wishlist together of our favorite artists. The chance to reunite with our friend @MariahCarey was wishlist fulfillment at its finest.”

The dramatic ballad changes tempo midstream, allowing Carey to display both her whispery soft soprano and her iconic open-throated singing to the heavens. It all sounds great. Check out “Somewhat Loved” below, and welcome this Hall of Fame teaming back to SoulTracks.
