(January 14, 2026) There’s an old familiar saying that emerges during consequential presidential elections bearing these words: “As Iowa goes, so goes the nation.” There may actually be a ring of truth to that after hearing the emerging talent of Jaianna Carlene, a two-time Iowa Music Awards winner based in Cedar Rapids who has recently released a string of singles including “I Can’t Lose You” and “Grateful.”
On her latest expedition, “Warm Me Up,” Carlene (who professionally just goes by Jaianna) gives listeners just what they need during this cold, wintry season. Supported by piano riffs akin to Lauryn Hill’s “Dop Wop (That Thing)” and a dazzle of holiday-tinged jingles, “Warm Me Up” is a snazzy R&B take on “Baby It’s Cold Outside” without all the extra pressure. Her supple vocals, blessed with Mariah and Ariana vibes, radiates the space with the right amount of fervency.
On the second verse, Jaianna breaks out a simple request while declining all the Hallmark holiday stroll extras: “I don’t need no, no hot chocolate…no apple cider/All I need is you beside me, ohhhhh.” And like a cherry on top of the cake or that little romantic charm under the mistletoe, the song culminates with a saxophone solo serenading the ear at the tail end of the brief two-and a half minute track.
Yes, the short is a hasty horse and carriage ride, but it’s the perfect introduction to the artistry of Jaianna. Very smooth, soulful and warm on the ears. And so goes the nation, just in time for the lovers’ rush of Valentine’s Day.
