First Listen: We meet powerful NYC soul artist Izze Stein on “Unaware”

(October 28, 2025) The protagonist in “Unaware,” the new song from up-and-coming indie artist Izze Stein, is conflicted. It would be inaccurate to identify the party that’s consuming Stein’s thought and controlling her actions as an antagonist. However, the guy’s not good for her, not really into her, and she knows it. Yet, she keeps coming back.

“Unaware” is a fusion of pop and R&B where Stein uses her skill and training in musical theatre that she received at the University of Michigan to infuse this song with the energy and angst of a person attracted to someone who is at best unaware of and at worst indifferent to her feelings.

Stein, a pianist and lyricist as well as singer, wrote “Unaware,” and every other song on her EP Back to My Life, released in 2025, as well as Questions, her debut full-length album. Stein draws her influence from great female singer-songwriters, including Erykah Badu, Joni Mitchell and Amy Winehouse. The album is well worth the listen and “Unaware” is a wonderful place to start.
