(August 12, 2022) Back in 1975, The Isley Brothers delivered one of their now classic slow jams with “Make Me Say It Again, Girl” from their The Heat Is On. That song has lived on ever since in multiple hits collections and even more basement parties. But one of the pleasant surprises of 2022 happened today when Ronald Isley issued a brand new version of the song teaming with Queen of the World, Beyonce, fresh off the release of her smash album, Renaissance.
The first thing that strikes the listener is just how good Ron Isley sounds at age 81, his voice supple and soulful as is glides through the verses. And second is just how beautifully that voice blends with Beyonce’s. The light arrangement of the new version remains quite faithful to the original, and that’s a good thing. This is about the song itself and especially about the killer vocal performances, which are transcendant.
It is tough to make a 47 year old song sound all new again, but that’s exactly what this duet does. Check it out below and enjoy.
