(December 17, 2023) On the “Bye Bye,” the new banger by I.Khan, the singer makes it clear that this long-suffering business is for the birds. She does not give second chances. Calling “Bye Bye” a breakup record doesn’t do the song justice. “Bye Bye” is an “I’m cutting you totally out of my life” record.
I.Khan delivers the lyrics with a mixture of anger over the time she invested in someone who was not worthy, as well as joy that comes with realizing that she doesn’t need to continue throwing good time after bad. “Bye Bye” is an anthem to being over what is in the past while also embracing who is in her present and future.
That world view accounts for the upbeat nature listeners will hear in the arrangement. “Bye Bye” rides the wave of a piano riff that anchors an infectious bass line and a New Orleans shuffle march drum beat that lets the listener know that this woman is not looking back. She’s moving happily into the future, hand in hand with her new love.
