First Listen: Honoré gives 70s sheen to “Ain’t No Substitute”

(November 25, 2025) A few months ago, we introduced SoulTrackers to rising R&B singer Honoré, who landed with the hit single, “It’s Over.” Now, fresh off her New Artist of the Year nomination in this year’s SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, Honoré delivers a hot new single that recalls the danceable sounds that dominated Black radio in the late 1970s.

“Ain’t No Substitute” is a lush groover that shows off the skills of Detroit-based producer/arranger Pirahnahead, the 18-piece ensemble The Detroit Soulchestra, and Honoré’s vocal upper range. It tells a story of love that emanated from a fun social media post that Honoré made about her Toronto-based husband, and expresses the joy of new love.

“Substitute” virtually pops from the speakers with an organic fullness not heard very often in 2025, and it sounds absolutely fresh. We think SoulTrackers are going to dig it. Check it out below.
