(February 20, 2026) Veteran R&B/soul songstress Hil St. Soul has made a name for herself, thanks to over 25 years of great music as an independent artist. Widely respected in the entertainment trades, the Zambian native, born Hilary Mwelwa, has released fine works via the USA-based Shanachie Entertainment for quite some time.
This new tune, “Nasalifya” is the lead single from the upcoming album of the same name, due in March 2026. The song is a personal one, honoring Hil’s departed father, who passed while she was completing the new disc. But it’s more than a song saluting her dad; it’s a letter of thankfulness and gratitude to those who are “the innovators, the groundbreakers, the leaders” who’ve paved the way for those to follow.
The song itself is a soulful, uplifting, melodic hymn, with Hil’s lead and background vocals providing a melody that’s easy to remember. The backing vocals are choir-like, solemn with a hint of joyousness. As for the instrumentation, it provides a solid backing for Hil to tell her story in song. The video of “Nasalifya” is a joy to see. Filmed in Zambia, it honors Hil’s family, those who inspired her (yeah, Hil – I spied that album cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”), all the way to giving thanks to the ancestors that still guide this song master.
With Regi Myrix collaborating as co-producer, “Nasalifya” is a solid taster of Hil St. Soul’s upcoming album. If the long-player is filled with goodies of this caliber as well as Hil’s past works, dating back to her debut disc “Soul Organic” from 2000, this writer is sure she’ll have another winner.
