(August 16, 2017) Native New Yorker Mike Maurro has been an in-demand DJ for a long time, but his international fame came in the past decade, as he began to actively work in the remix area, creating innovative new mixes of songs, old and new, achieving a #1 album and lots of kudos for his work.
Mike is now readying a release that features remixes of a handful of songs from one of our all-time favorite groups, Heatwave, which will be issued in September on Brookside/Above Board Records. Each of the songs has something to recommend, but the one that hit us the most on our first listening, was his cool take on that classic slow jam, “Always and Forever.”
Mike tells us about the song, “when the chance to remix Heatwave came up, ‘Always and Forever” wasn’t even on my radar. I wanted ‘Boogie Nights’ and ‘Groove Line’ so bad that it never crossed my mind to remix a ballad. When I was sent pictures of the master tape boxes, I saw “Always and Forever” on one of the take sheets but didn’t look like a complete session. I insisted we take whatever was there just in case. To my delight the session was not only complete but contained two lead vocal tracks with subtle differences and some out takes and instruments that I don’t believe were used or buried deep in the original mix. Just bringing up the tracks on the computer gave me chills…”
We like what Mike did to bring a different life to this old fave. Check it out below and tell us what you think!
