(November 13, 2021) Call him a psychotherapist and call him a messenger for God. As his career was taking off in 2019 with a #7 Billboard Gospel Music charted debut EP Undefeated, Gene Hoskins was conducting business with his own company in North Carolina – listening to people’s life concerns.
Thus far, his acts of loving on others and loving on Jesus — performing with gospel icons Jonathan Nelson and John P Kee — have gone hand in hand. But as for that first love, his artistic fabric was shaped by listening to artists in various genres that inspired him as a songwriter: “As I grew older,” says Hoskins, “I searched out artists that spoke to me, like Mary Mary…Brandy, Tank, Anita Baker…as I got older Ella, even Country music.”
His musical career continued soaring with his self-released Home Coming in 2020, adding yet Billboard achievement at #14 on the Gospel charts. In 2021, Home Coming is being re-released as a Deluxe Album for Shanachie Entertainment, with three new tracks including Hoskins’ current single, “Make It with Jesus.”
Through his animated performance, Hoskins illustrates his personal victory in Jesus while dealing with the ordeal of contracting Covid-19. While the backing arrangement is satisfactory, it is Hoskins vocal performance that unapologetically holds down “Make It with Jesus” – oozing his passion for Jesus, his affection for making music and leading a positive therapeutic session.
