(September 22, 2022) G. Mackey can truly say that he learned from one of the best, and he would be telling the truth. G. Mackey worked at Holland Group Production as an artist, producer and songwriter, where he was mentored by Eddie Holland, a man who wrote hits for Motown artists in the 1960s and for Invictus records, a label he founded with his brother Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier.
“I learned indelible scholarship from Eddie Holland such as melody structure, musical arrangement, lyrical concepts, sound engineering and the ends and outs and ups and downs of the industry that I love so much,” Mackey noted.
He showcases those skills on his latest release, “Trust” a track that combines contemporary R&B and hip-hop production techniques, featuring trap style drum programming with Southern Soul lyricism, storytelling. Mackey’s old school rugged baritone draws from Saturday evenings in the night club and Sunday morning in the church choir stands.
“Trust” finds Mackey delivering expressions of devotion to his woman and frustration over her lingering mistrust. Mackey puts his unique spin on a familiar story of a person begging someone that he cares deeply about to believe the proof his loyalty and let go of the lingering mistrust that is residue from the betrayals of past lovers.
