(August 4, 2026) Musician/producer Mark Duffus (AKA Blak Prophez) first formed The Soul Garden in 2005, who remixed for prolific recording artists like Justin Timberlake. But since 2015 name change to Funk Division, Duffus has built an even stronger soul-jazz pathway for the Birmingham, England based ensemble. In addition to producer Derek DK King propelling Funk Division with deep house beats, several female vocalists took the lead vocal role, including the current vocalist, Xiomara Mukwendi. Critics raved about Duffus & King for their ear catching musicality that always encompassed a funky aftertaste, especially with “Right On,” “Symptoms of Love” and Funk Division’s debut with SoulTracks on the DK Video Mix version of “Whenever” from their 2025 full-length, Soul Amplified.
For our most recent First Listen, we feature another Soul Amplified track, “Fall’in” (Digital Jukebox/Orchard Sony USA), graced with a brand new ‘Live’ remix – a slightly more pumped-up perspective frosted with a blues drenched vibe. Mukwendi’s sassiness brews a steamy confidence behind the lead microphone, handling her business with no love games to play. The foundation of sweet funky keys, bass and drums connects with the double time brass section, thanks to the snappy production and arrangement from drummer Duffus. Story wise, the female narrative questions what the hangups are in a mysterious relationship dynamic:
You’re trying to tame me,
You broke the rules,
That could have changed us,
But I’m not a fool.
While Funk Division has planted their career primarily in the clubs, this engaging performance excels on the live performance platform. Listen up!
