(September 1, 2022) Frank McComb stands up for the good, hard working family man on his new single “Instead.” The tune extols the virtues of a man who takes care of business at home. He puts in 40 hours, comes home, spends time with the children and is responsive to the needs of his wife. However, “Instead” is more than McComb giving that man his hard earned laurels. The song is also a warning to women and society in general not to take this guy for granted.
Now, I can see the eyes rolling now. Some will say that McComb is patting these ‘good men’ on the back for doing what he is supposed to do and what women have been doing for years. This might be a case where two things can be true, and one truth should not negate the other. In a way, “Instead” stands as McComb’s response to the depictions of men as being much less that committed to their families that fill the airwaves and popular culture. No doubt those bad guys are out there, but so are the good guys.
And in true McComb fashion, the singer, keyboardist and songwriter makes soulful defense of these ‘good guys.’ In a conversational style, McComb describes this man’s many good qualities. Hard working, great role model to the children, faithful and devoted. The world should not take him for granted. Check it “Instead” here.
